Our leaders and politicians tell us many stories like the stories of the lives but have you ever stopped to think are any of them true? The book animal farm shows how twisting stories gives you a hold over who ever your lying to. The animals reacted differently to each story. In animal farm the way characters respond to stories has a strong connection to their ability to survive.
Napoleon mastered the art of story telling and ended up controlling every thing. Napoleon first chased Snowball away from the farm. All the animals had seen what he had donned. He said however that Snowball was a traitor and the animal believed him. Then he blamed Snowball for the windmill accident. Most of the animals still believed Napoleon. His worst lie was to boxer. He told him he was going to the vet. Boxer believed it and went to the knackers. Napoleon’s twisted stories made him the dominant animal on animal farm.
Boxer did not once question Napoleon and ended the worsted of them all. He thought that Napoleon was always right. Napoleon had a huge hold over him. One-day boxer walked into a truck, after being injured. Nap said that it was a vet but Benjamin found out that it was a knacker’s truck [horse killer]. Boxer was killed, and Nap lied about that too. He gave out that the van was just bought and the owner had not yet painted over it yet. Boxer got ruled by the story and because of that he died.
Benjamin had questions Napoleon and he did not loose most of his rights. He did this by always keeping an ear open to news. He also had many suspicions, as a result he new that the commandments were changing. He did not believe much of what he was told by Nap. He did not believe that Boxer was taken to the vet. On page 123 in the book Ben found out that Boxer was in a knackers truck. Ben did not let the stories rule him and he did very well.
The characters to respond to stories are linked to there ability to survive. Nap mastered the art of story telling and ruled over animal farm with an iron fist. Boxer let the story master him by just did what he was told and ended up turned to glue. Ben did not let Nap's stories rule him by questioned Nap and ended up o.k. This shows that if one stays smart and does what he knows is right can survive well in any environment.
